Credentials Vermont Early Childhood and Afterschool Program Director Credential -The Vermont Early Childhood Program Director Credential offers a three-step sequence of college-level courses for directors in the field or those interested in becoming a new director. Child Development Associate CDA- The CDA credential is administered by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C. It is a national credential awarded to competent early childhood professionals who have demonstrated their ability to meet the needs of children on a daily basis. It is a significant accomplishment and an option for beginning a successful career in early childhood education. Click here for more information. Vermont Child Care Apprenticeship Program-The Vermont Child Care Apprenticeship Program results, in part, from President Clinton's 1998 Child Care Initiative and the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, which has formally recognized the “Child Development Specialist” (child care worker) as an apprenticeship position. The U.S. Department of Labor and Vermont's Department of Employment and Training apprenticeship programs are structured to include on the job training and supervision, related course work and increases in compensation. Community College of Vermont (CCV) Child Care Certificate- The CCV Child Care Certificate prepares students for the work in the childcare industry and early education environment. Also excellent preparation for continued study in education and child development. Participants take a total of 24 credits, ranging from Child Development and Curriculum Development for Early Childhood Educators to Introduction to Nutrition and Communication in the Early Childhood Education Workplace.
