Level VI

Professionals enter Level VI by enrolling in graduate courses in early childhood education toward a doctoral degree. Union Institute & University and the University of Vermont are two institutions that confer this degree. Prerequisites for admission to these kinds of programs include the Bachelor's degree in any field as well as demonstrated commitment to the advancement of early childhood education as a field.

After completing the academic program and obtaining licensure, professionals complete three years of work experience and subsequently complete Level VI. This is a significant investment for early childhood professionals and they are leaders in the field at this level. Professionals should begin or maintain participation in a professional organization or statewide committee.
