What is the Community College of Vermont (CCV) Child Care Certificate?

The CCV Child Care Certificate prepares students for the work in the childcare industry and early education environment. Also excellent preparation for continued study in education and child development. Participants take a total of 24 credits, ranging from Child Development and Curriculum Development for Early Childhood Educators to Introduction to Nutrition and Communication in the Early Childhood Education Workplace. Please visit the website for more information about specific courses.

I have taken some Apprenticeship Program courses. Do they transfer into the CCV Child Care Certificate?

Yes, many, if not all of the Apprenticeship Program courses transfer into the CCV Certificate program. There are other requirements as well. It is advised that you contact your regional CCV Academic Coordinator to discuss specific courses. Click here for a list of CCV sites and contact information.

I am planning to pursue my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, should I take courses in the Child Care Certificate Program?

Yes. Vermont has several institutions that offer Bachelor degree programs in Early Childhood Education or related fields, with varying approaches. While we are working to develop stronger articulation agreements for transferring students, you should spend time with your CCV Academic Advisor to find courses that will transfer to a four-year institution of your choice. To start, explore the Admissions Office for Champlain College, Lyndon State College (click the Admissions link on the left hand side and select Transfer Students), Union Institute and University (scroll down to the bottom of the page for Admissions information), or the Registrars Office at the University of Vermont. In addition, see Goddard College's program offerings and the new (2009) program at Springfield College of Human Services- with a concentration in early childhood, in St. Johnsbury VT (1-800-441-1812) email: shsstjohnsbury@spfldcol.edu.
